New Business:
Rockville Regatta went well. Approximately 650 attendees. Cars parked on Maybank Highway. Overall, no issues. Whit Smith comments that there was a County Police presence Saturday night.
Henry Holst mentions that during the recent big rain event a tree at Scott’s house came down and landed in the road. Henry and Stan cut and removed. Homeowner finished the rest of the cleanup. Mayor comments that the Town is responsible for tree issues if a tree is on an easement or if a tree is 50/50 on a property line/road. Whit Smith suggest an agreed upon percentage to split tree removal expense with property owners to incentivize action to be taken preemptively. Council to review trouble spots/potential problems
Johns Island Meeting September 12th.
Scheduling Order – Review tree potential issues throughout the Town. Henry Holst to take pictures.
Mayor motioned to adjourn at 7:26. Seconded by Frank Thornhill.
Mayor motions to resume meeting – 7:27. Seconded by Tammy Bazzle. Unanimously approved.
Letter submitted to council by Preston Wilson’s attorney articulating the reason why Preston would be able to build the structure on his property for which he was granted a variance for by the Town. Due to existing private covenants and restrictions of the Rockland Subdivision, other residents advocated against Preston’s plan to build at the recent town BZA meeting. The restrictions do not pertain to Preston’s lot and are not enforceable in this instance. The submitted letter from legal counsel explains why the restrictions do not apply. Mayor enters the letter into the record.
Mayor motioned to adjourn at 7:30. Seconded by Whit Smith.
